It's 'Kalaween'!

The nights are drawing in, the pumpkins are appearing, and something tuneful is stirring at Music Bits Company. Forget things that go bump in the night: this Halloween, we are celebrating things that go strum. Welcome to Kalaween, our seasonally spooky tour of the Kala ukulele range.

From a midnight-black sparkle concert ukulele to richly grained baritones and bass ukuleles with a wonderfully low voice, there is more than one way to give your autumn music-making a little atmosphere. Whether you are choosing your first ukulele, upgrading a much-loved instrument or assembling a Halloween ukulele ensemble, our Alford music shop has plenty to explore.

The individual Kala instruments and accessories featured below were in stock when this article was written. Availability can change, so browse our ukulele collection for current choices. No tricks, just properly musical treats.

Soprano ukuleles: little instruments with plenty of spirit

A soprano ukulele brings the compact feel and lively character many people picture when they think of a traditional uke. It is an inviting starting point for beginners, a handy companion for established players, and a cheerful antidote to an evening of howling wind and creaking floorboards.

Our Kala soprano selection includes the Kala Eco Bamboo KA-BMB-S, with bamboo construction, a slotted headstock and contrasting black hardware. If your Halloween costume already supplies enough darkness, the Kala Ukadelic Cherry Red, Taxi Cab Yellow and Flamingo Pink soprano ukuleles bring a splash of colour instead. These wooden Ukadelic models come with a branded tote bag.

There is also the Kala Waterman soprano ukulele in Sea Foam Green, a water-resistant, travel-friendly option supplied with a bag. Think friendly lagoon creature rather than sinister swamp monster. Water-resistant does not mean you should abandon sensible instrument care, of course.

Concert ukuleles: a little midnight sparkle

For players who like the familiar ukulele character but want a little more room on the fingerboard than a soprano generally provides, a concert ukulele is well worth trying. It is a popular middle ground for strumming, learning songs and exploring melodies without moving to a much larger instrument.

The Kala Black Galaxy Sparkle Concert Ukulele KA-SPRK-BLACK practically arrived dressed for Kalaween. Its glittery black body, cream binding and gloss finish bring a midnight-party look, and it includes a padded Kala gig bag. If your idea of Halloween is more enchanted ballroom than haunted cellar, the Kala Star Dust Gold Sparkle Concert Ukulele KA-SPRK-GOLD offers a golden alternative.

Prefer natural wood to glitter? The Kala Hawaiian Koa Concert KA-KOA-C and Hawaiian Koa Electro Concert KA-KOA-CE offer distinctive koa grain and satin finishes. The Kala Solid Spruce Striped Ebony Concert KA-SSEBY-C pairs a solid spruce top with striped ebony and decorative detailing for a different kind of visual drama.

Tenor ukuleles: give your Halloween soundtrack some presence

A tenor ukulele offers a larger format to explore, especially if you enjoy fingerpicking, chord melodies or simply prefer its feel. Choosing between soprano, concert and tenor is not a test you can fail: comfort, sound and the way you play matter far more than finding a supposedly perfect size on paper.

The Kala Salt & Pepper Doghair Mahogany Tenor KA-SDH-T is an especially fitting visitor to our Kalaween gathering. Its distinctive grain-filled finish gives solid mahogany a striking appearance, complemented by cream binding and a gloss finish. A padded Kala gig bag is included. It has enough visual character to stand out without needing a plastic spider attached to the headstock.

Other in-stock tenor choices include the Kala Hawaiian Koa KA-KOA-T, Solid Mahogany Gloss KA-SMH-TG, Solid Acacia KA-SA-T and Solid Cedar Top Pau Ferro KA-ASCP-T. These offer different wood combinations and finishes to explore rather than one identical ukulele wearing several disguises.

For something less conventional, the Kala Solid Cedar & Acacia 6-String Tenor KA-SCAC-T6 doubles the C and A strings for a fuller texture. It is a six-string tenor ukulele, not a guitarlele. The Kala Solid Mango Tenor XL KA-AMNG-TXL, supplied with a case, takes another route with its enlarged tenor format.

Baritone ukuleles: welcome to the darker side

If your musical Halloween needs a deeper voice, a baritone ukulele deserves an audition. Standard baritone tuning is D–G–B–E, unlike the usual G–C–E–A tuning of soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles. That makes it an interesting option for guitarists as well as ukulele players seeking a different register. Remember that familiar chord shapes will produce different chord names when you change between these tunings.

Our featured baritones include the Kala Hawaiian Koa KA-KOA-B, Gloss Mahogany KA-BG-2006 and Striped Ebony KA-EBY-B. The striped ebony model's deep brown body and reddish-brown striping bring their own autumn atmosphere.

The Kala Salt & Pepper Doghair Mahogany Electro Baritone KA-SDH-BE adds another distinctive option, with solid mahogany construction and onboard electronics. A deeper voice, an eye-catching finish and no need to practise your vampire accent.

Bass ukuleles: the rumble beneath the floorboards

Every haunted-house soundtrack needs something happening downstairs. In a ukulele group, a bass ukulele supplies the low-end foundation beneath the chords and melodies. It has a different musical job from a baritone: this is about bass lines and groove, not simply another strumming size.

The Kala Pacific Walnut Acoustic Electric U•BASS UBASS-PW-FS combines light-and-dark walnut grain with built-in EQ and Kala roundwound strings by La Bella. The Kala Quilted Ash Acoustic Electric Fretted U•BASS UBASS-QA-FS offers striking quilted figuring, onboard EQ and that same focus on a deep low end. Both featured models include a custom U•BASS gig bag.

Browse our bass ukulele collection to put something suitably substantial underneath your next group session.

A six-string guest at the Kalaween party

Alongside those five main categories, the Kala Mahogany Guitarlele KA-GL is another in-stock option for curious players. This compact six-string guitar-and-ukulele crossover is distinct from the doubled-string tenor mentioned above. If you are a guitarist drawn to a smaller instrument, explore our guitar ukulele and guitarlele collection.

Ukulele accessories: assemble your musical survival kit

A Halloween costume can survive a missing accessory. A playing session is less forgiving when you have forgotten your tuner or brought the wrong strings. The right ukulele accessories make everyday practice, lessons, rehearsals and trips to your local ukulele club much easier.

Ukulele gig bags: a little protection after dark

Our in-stock Kala Music Logo Soprano Gig Bag UB-S-LOGO has a padded interior, an accessory pocket and shoulder straps. Explore the wider ukulele gig bag collection for current options, checking the size and fit against your instrument. A soprano bag is not a universal home for a concert, tenor, baritone or U•BASS, however persuasive your packing skills.

Ukulele capos: change key without witchcraft

A capo lets you raise the pitch while retaining familiar chord shapes, useful when fitting a song to a singer's voice. Our in-stock Kala ukulele capos include Black K-CAPO-BLK, Walnut K-CAPO-WLT and Beechwood K-CAPO-BCW, with soft silicone pads. Browse our ukulele capo collection and choose an appropriate fit for your instrument.

Ukulele straps: keep your hands on the music

The Kala Sonoma Coast Deluxe ukulele straps are in stock in Purple, Red, Turquoise and Charcoal. These adjustable cloth straps have leather ends and add support as well as colour. Explore our ukulele strap collection, checking the attachment method your instrument needs before choosing. Purple and charcoal certainly would not look out of place at this particular party.

Ukulele strings: avoid a truly frightening mismatch

Keep your instrument's size, tuning and string type in mind when selecting replacements. Soprano, concert, tenor, baritone and bass ukulele strings are not automatically interchangeable. Our ukulele string collection is the place to explore current sets. Specialist instruments such as six-string tenors and U•BASS models need particular care when matching strings, so ask us if you are unsure.

Tuners, picks and ukulele parts

The in-stock Kala Klipz Red Chromatic Clip Tuner and Kala Klipz Blue Rechargeable Chromatic Clip Tuner help keep the scary sounds intentional. Browse our tuners and metronomes collection for current options.

If you like experimenting with your attack and playing feel, explore our ukulele picks collection. For maintenance and replacement components, visit our ukulele parts collection and check compatibility before ordering. Not every small component fits every small instrument.

Make this Halloween a Kalaween

You do not need a stage, a costume or an audience of obedient skeletons to enjoy a ukulele. A few chords, a favourite song and an instrument you want to pick up are an excellent start. Try a gentle minor-key strum, arrange a familiar spooky melody, or invite a bass-playing friend to give your ukulele session a little extra rumble.

Visit Music Bits Company at 17 High Street, Alford, Lincolnshire, LN13 9DS, to explore our Kala ukuleles, or browse our ukulele range online from wherever you are in the UK. For help choosing an instrument or matching accessories, call 01507 838 448.

This Halloween, leave the cobwebs to the decorations. Your next musical treat might have strings attached.
